In addition to GP consultations the practice adheres to the General Medical Services Contract for the provision of healthcare services:
Westside Medical Centre is NOT a Walk-in Centre
Please take into account that we are not a walk-in centre or an urgent care centre. We are a General Practice who organise appointments for all our registered patients when they are available. You cannot walk in and expect to be seen immediately by a GP or a Nurse. We are currently facing unprecedented increase in demand of routine appointments required for our current patients.
ADVANCED NURSE PRACTITIONERS (ANPs)
ANPs are nurses with a depth of post-registration experience and have achieved a Masters qualification in Advanced Clinical Practice.
They can act as a patient’s primary healthcare provider.
Advanced practice is a level of practice, rather than a type or speciality of practice. Advanced Nurse Practitioners are assessed as competent in practice, using expert knowledge and skills. They have the freedom and authority to act, making autonomous decisions in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients.
SEEING AN ANP – WHAT DOES THIS MEAN TO ME AS A PATIENT?
Our ANPs can assess, diagnose, plan, and manage your care with you by history taking, physical examination and the ordering and interpretation of diagnostic tests. They can also prescribe and review your medication. They can make onward referrals and provide appropriate treatment for their patients. They are a trusted and recognised source of experience for the practice team. You may be offered an appointment with an ANP instead of with one of the GPs if you have an urgent problem, need help with long term conditions or wish to discuss any aspect of your care. If you need a home visit, you may have an ANP come to see you instead of a GP. A refusal to see an ANP may mean a delay in treating or managing your condition.
